We were looking for a new clock for our kitchen. The clock needed to be a nice big eye catcher but after not finding what we liked in (web)shops we decided to make one ourselves.
The town where we live has a very cool timber trade concept called ‘Tafelboom’ (translated ‘Tabletree’). They only sell wood (and furniture) originating from trees that have been felled in our city. You even get a ‘passport’ to know exactly what the history of your piece of wood was (it states the wood type and where the tree used to stand etc.).
So our idea was to find a big piece of wood to make a large round clock. But after looking through many pieces of wood, nothing had the right size and look for that plan. Then we found this piece of ash wood and liked it straight away because of the unique shape and the large knot in de centre.
The cracks in the knot and along the edge have been filled with epoxy. The wood has been treated with Natural Osmo Hardware Oil and the multiplex numbers are custom made by Piero of Dondolegno (click here to go to his Etsy shop).
The result is a one of a kind clock we’re very happy with!
